David Fishman: Publisher

David J. Fishman is the publisher of Fathoms. An avid diver since 1982, Fishman has spent more than 25 years in the media and publishing business. Fathoms represents a perfect blending of his magazine experience and his passion for the underwater world. In addition to his role at Fathoms Magazine, David operates Downshift Media, a media-centric franchise development agency and production company based in New York City and Larchmont, NY. Downshift’s clients have included: Discovery Communications, ESPN, Teatown Productions, RTM Productions, DeSilva & Phillips Media Bankers, Black Dog Films, Harvey Ginsberg & Co., and D1 Interactive Media among others.

David has also served as executive producer on several science and natural history television projects including series and specials airing on the Discovery Channel. Previously, David has served executive roles for Hachette Filipacchi Media in New York and Paris, France, the world’s largest publisher of magazines. He also previously headed business development at both The Condé Nast Publications, and Walt Disney Publishing, also in New York.

David started his magazine career at Discover Magazine as a reporter, and he has won several awards for his writings. As a freelancer, he has also written magazine articles for publications including: Sea Frontiers, Science World, Ocean Realm, Readers Digest, and Modern Maturity. In addition, he has contributed articles on space exploration and cosmology to Grolier's New Science Encyclopedia.

David is a graduate of the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and he also has Master of Journalism and a Master of Science Writing degrees from New York University. In free time not spent underwater fumbling with cameras, David runs the Larchmont Mamaroneck Little League.


Brian Skerry: Senior Editor

Brian Skerry is a photojournalist specializing in underwater subjects and stories. Since 1998 Brian has been a contributing photographer for National Geographic Magazine covering a wide range of assignments. His images have also been featured in magazines such as People, Sports Illustrated, US News and World Report, National Wildlife, Playboy, Smithsonian, Esquire, Audubon, BBC Wildlife, Outdoor Life, Wildlife Conservation, GEO, Maxim, Men’s Journal and in countless publications worldwide.
